about

The Hawthorn Spring is the culmination of many years of wanting to make a proper album. In 1988 and 1990 I made home recordings, by myself, of more or less all the songs I’d written, which I put out on two cassettes (how quaint). I shifted a few hundred copies but they weren’t much good. For this project it made every kind of sense to ask for help from some highly talented people, and I couldn’t be more delighted with the help I got.

This album is dedicated, with love, to Richard Lewis. I’m immensely grateful for your unwavering support and assistance.
Many thanks to Chris Pitcher for helping to make the project possible.
Thanks to Sarah Simmonds and James Fagan for helping me to find my voice, and to Roy for letting me know that I hadn’t already found it!
Thank you, Lucy, Roy and Will for the icing on the cake, and massive thanks to Ich for putting it all together so well.
Huge, heartfelt gratitude to Alex, Elly, Jay and Seth for your contributions, it’s such a joy to have you here.
Special thanks to the Faeries, who gave me the fire that I needed to get this done.
